Inflation rate, reliability of impact recognition system, ease of use, charging foolproof, weight, overall comfort, high performance to the impact test, certifiability: these are some of the most important requirements followed during the design of MOTOAIRBAG®.
MOTOAIRBAG® is the result of a long process of designing and testing prototypes. Each component has been subjected to numerous tests of effectiveness and reliability. The tests which include cyclic and constant use in all environmental conditions (urban environment or rural), or use in extreme weather conditions and external environment (numerous intercontinental trips in motion) for a total of over 1,000,000 km. Particular attention has been given (and still is) the real impact tests with dummies and the collection of the now numerous instances of real accidents in which the motorcyclist wore the MOTOAIRBAG® protection.
THE AIR BAG SYSTEM
The technology "cold explosion" makes MOTOAIRBAG® one of the best performing air bags on the market (available technology and patented by D.P.I.Safety). The inflation time is 80-85 milliseconds.
The geometry of the lot was the subject of a very intense design work until you get to get a very high capacity to absorb the impact that to date has been recognized as Level 2 according to the European Standard EN1621 / 4: 2013 (see section Certification )
MECHANICAL ACTIVATION
The MOTOAIRBAG® activation system has been the subject of a very thorough study.
Despite the electronic activation systems appear to be more "evolved" than others, MOTOAIRBAG® preferred to use an activation system based on the mechanical precision, because it is extremely reliable and easy to use.
For a mechanically activated command it is very easy to identify dangerous situations and activate the airbag system. In fact, everything works through a simple cable that connects to the bike MOTOAIRBAG®: When the rider is found to be too far away or out of shape compared to a calibrated distance, the cable reaches its maximum extent, gets away from MOTOAIRBAG® and activates the airbag system . The activation cable remains on the bike and therefore has the sole function to keep under control the position of the motorcyclist.
The length of the cable has been the subject of many studies: the length identified now allows the system to activate MOTOAIRBAG® into impact or safe situations, but at the same time leaves free the motorcyclist to move around the bike course (eg z).
The mechanical activation system MOTOAIRBAG® fails to recognize:
The static load to avoid accidental activation of those who fall off the bike without first disconnecting the cable: a load of 15kg elastically draws the motorcyclist to the first use could forget to disconnect the trigger cable.
The dynamic load, which represents the sensitivity of MOTOAIRBAG® to recognize the dangerous situation: MOTOAIRBAG® has a very low dynamic loads (only 1 Joule) which makes it very sensitive to recognize all types of accidents.
COLD EXPLOSION
An air bag device to be effective must have very fast activation times, and react before the motorcyclist impacts against an obstacle.
MOTOAIRBAG® mounts a device that can inflate the airbag system in only 80/85 milliseconds
The device that allows to MOTOAIRBAG® to swell so quickly bases its operation on a fully mechanical gas generator that uses very high pressure CO2 cartridges instead of explosive components typical of automotive airbags. The gas generator does not produce heat (as the automotive systems) and can be put even in contact with the skin of the body without any side effect. This technology has the name "cold explosion" and is produced and patented by PPE Safety that makes it available also in partnership for the development of various other applications.
COMFORT
The MOTOAIRBAG® Comfort has been subject to careful analysis, especially the device's weight control airbags. To date, the rear airbag system weighs 800 grams while the front airbag has reached 600 grams. The total weight of MOTOAIRBAG® version 1.0 or 2.0p version (with rear airbags) is 1400grammi. When you switch to version MOTOAIRBAG® version 2.0c (with two air bag systems) we have arrived to 2kg, for which they were designed for homogeneous distribution of the solution to the whole weight vest that make it very comfortable to wear MOTOAIRBAG® V2.0c
MOTOAIRBAG® is made of technical material as Cordura 500 and are inserted into three-dimensional mesh inserts that maximize the air flow inside the vest. The line and cutting MOTOAIRBAG® take into account that the vest should be worn the jacket: the shape of the vest can be changed considerably to ensure that the same MOTOAIRBAG® vests can fit the profile of your winter jacket or the summer, acting simply on the lateral adjustment. STATISTICS OF REFERENCE
